West Midtown mixed-use development announces 2013 retail expansion and improved parking.

Westside Provisions District in a press release Monday announced plans to add 14,000-square-feet of retail space, plus a handful of other physical changes to the district coming in 2013.

The expansion will include major additions and changes to the North End of the district, the area that includes Star Provisions, Jonathan Adler and Taqueria del Sol, according to the release:

  1. Approximately 14,000 square feet of additional retail space off Howell Mill Road.
  2. Mezzanine spaces and outdoor areas.
  3. 95 new parking spaces.
  4. A newly graded and paved parking lot.
  5. Improved driveway aprons.
  6. Improved exterior lighting in the North End parking lot.

“2012 has been an unprecedented year for retail leasing at Westside Provisions District,” Michael Phillips, COO of Jamestown, one of the real estate developers behind the district, along with Tucker Mott, said in the release.

“We’ve been gratified to welcome new national and local boutique retailers to our community, and have helped to grow existing tenants as their businesses flourish. These new additions are an exciting step in the ongoing evolution of WSPD.”

What Now Atlanta uncovered one building permit application filed with City of Atlanta for the project in October. That permit only accounts for renovations to 3,499-square-feet of the overall project, with construction costs totaling $500,000.

Additional retail leases are likely to be announced in early 2013, according to the release. Well placed sources suggest one of Westside’s new tenants will be Jack Spade.

The Westside Provisions District is really two separate developments. The south end where Jack Spade is rumored to go and where Room & Board, West Egg and the condos are is what is owned by a partnership between Jamestown and Westbridge Partners. Across the bridge over the NS railroad line is the “Westside Urban Market”, which also includes the strip of design shops on the east side of Howell Mill (anthropology, Savvy Snoot, etc etc) and Figo. That is owned separately by a partnership involving Michael Phillips, quoted in the article and COO of Jamestown.

I believe the expansion is going to be largely constructed about where Jonathan Adler currently is on the Michael Phillips/Westside Urban Market side, and this will have nothing to do with Jamestown, though the whole area should benefit.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jamestown was gearing up for a release sometime early next year for upcoming retail tenants at White Provision, should they follow suit from last year (and the retail leasing cycle is wrapping up).

    Go Atlanta!

What are they building at the corner of Huff Rd & Foster St? I noticed the other day that they have taken all the big oak trees and are grading the entire east side of Foster St from the Goat farm to Huff.

They are also tearing down the old elementary school a little further west down Huff Rd on the left. Any news on that?

I hope they do tear that thing down. What I really wish is that they were able to widen Huff Road before they put a lot of new stuff in. But I can’t see that happening.

Perhaps they could also add some road infrastructure to make WPD more accessible? Like some turning lanes, etc?
