Patrons mistake pizza joint for bakery; owner decides to rebrand.

UPDATE (Dec. 10, 2012): Slice Westside to Shutter

After a year in business, Westside Pie is reopening as Slice Westside Thursday, September 6.

The pizza joint, at 1133 Huff Road Northwest, was being mistaken for a bakery, a spokeswoman told What Now Atlanta in a statement.

Westside Pie opened in July 2011 as a trendy pizza/bar experience in Midtown Atlanta. However, after 13 months, the owners realized something… they had already created this experience once before as Slice, and having a restaurant with the word “pie” made patrons think the restaurant served actual pie. Without any hesitation, Karen Smiley decided that it was time to rebrand the restaurant as “Slice Westside” joining Slice downtown.

A number of alterations to the menu come with the change to the name. Some of these changes include adding items from Slice’s Downtown location to its Westside menu like the Chico Suave (skillet baked mozzarella cheese bread). Slice is also introducing Chicago-style deep dish pizzas.

Slice Westside opens its doors on Thursday, September 6, 2012.

Won’t the same hillbilly idiots who couldn’t figure out that the word “pie” can include pizza pie, also be confused by the new “SILIIICIE” logo and refuse to eat at a place that is obviously serving SILIII food? When you’re dealing with a population having an average IQ of about 60, you need to keep it simple. The sign should just say PIZZA or perhaps ROUND SAUCE BREAD – GO DAWGS!

Having been to Westside Pie a couple times, the issue wasn’t their lack of pie, but the quality of their pizza. The vibe of the place was just a bit weird, too. It’s like they were trying to have an East Atlanta vibe on the westside, which wasn’t a fit. Plenty of business in the area as Corner Tavern is often packed.

I have been to this restaurant a few times and I love the pizzia. I knew something was up a month ago when my boyfriend and I went by for lunch and they were closed. Which I thought was very strange. How are you a pizza place and your not open for lunch? Westside Pie was a great name and it should have remained that. I don’t think that changing the name will bring more patrons in. The restaurant I work at has the same problem, decent food, contemporary atmosphere, but it’s never packed. Maybe the owner should get to know it’s community a little better and go out to the surrounding businesses, take a menu with him and introduce himself and the restaurant. There is no reason they shouldn’t at least have a lunch crowd in this industrial area. I feel that people will think of your restaurant when they personally know that your there.
