Tex-Mex restaurant to open Perimeter store.

UPDATE (Dec. 1, 2011): Chuy’s bringing Tex-Mex to Perimeter area December 6

Chuy’s, an Austin-based Tex-Mex restaurant, will open in Atlanta’s Perimeter area in November 2011, according to a press release Monday.

This will be Chuy’s first opening in Georgia since the restaurant was founded in 1982.

The restaurant will be located at 118 Perimeter Center West and owned and operated by John Mountford, according to the release. It will replace the now shuttered Fire of Brazil.

“I’m eager to introduce Chuy’s food and personality to Atlantans,” Mountford said. “Atlanta is a city known for its discernable taste, and I look forward to bringing locals a unique Tex-Mex dining experience unlike any they have seen before with quality ingredients at affordable prices.”

Chuy’s offers “made-from-scratch” Tex-Mex cuisine. Some signature items include Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom Enchiladas, Stuffed Chile Rellenos and “Big As Yo’ Face” Burritos.

Here’s more info about the decor and hours of operation from the release:

Chuy’s Atlanta will epitomize the saying, “if you’ve seen one Chuy’s, you’ve seen one Chuy’s” with eclectic décor that creates an inviting environment for all guests. The unique personality will be reflected in the legendary Elvis shrine, distinctive arrangements of funky art, metal palm trees, hubcap-covered ceilings, local Chuy’s T-shirts (even risqué ones from time to time) and unique tile work. The vibrant interior will lend to a lively ambiance enhanced by a family- and happy hour-friendly atmosphere complete with their Fully-Loaded Nacho Car, serving complimentary chips, salsa, queso, ground sirloin and more every Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.

I’ve been patiently waiting for Chuy’s to come to Atlanta. I’m a homesick Texan and this will help a lot!

Chuy’s is not that good…. Its almost like a rehash of Rio Bravo (before Chevy’s took them over and ruined them). As a big fan of margarittas, Chuy’s are not that good… and the famous jalapeno sauce/dip is nothing more than warm ranch dressing with jalapeno added for heat. There are much better Mexican places already all over Atlanta.

Having just moved to Atlanta from Texas, I have to respectfully and strongly disagree with Chad. There is no good Mexican food in Atlanta. Chuy’s is awesome!! Two things that Atlanta Mexican restaurants can’t seem to grasp….fresh, house-made tortillas and sliced chicken BREAST for fajitas. This location will be a bit of a hike for me but I’ll be a frequent visitor. Welcome Chuys!

What timing! I just returned from my first trip to Austin. Chuy’s was on the list of restaurants to visit in my girlfriends Restaurant Nostalgia Tour, but we didn’t actually get there. We did, however, visit their sister restaurant in Austin, Hula Hut, and the food was actually one of the best meals I had on the trip. I’ll look forward to Chuy’s opening up – it’ll be a little early Christmas present for my homesick Longhorn.

“Atlanta is a city known for its discernable taste”

That’s a crock. But, Chuys is good stuff, and they’ll compete with Uncle Julio’s.

Totally agree with Dan! There are some ok Taquarias on Buford Hwy, but nowhere to get good “Tex-Mex” ….Love Chuy’s! Hate that I will have to treck OTP..Blah…

Chad is simply wrong and has no taste… sorry Chad.

I welcome the new Rio Bravo overlord.

Chad, enjoy Elazteca… it’s all yours now!
